A simple technology could prevent a lot of big rig accident and rollovers. It is called electronic stability control. Russ Rader with the Institute For Highway Safety states: “The technology is available, it is not expensive, and we should get it on large trucks.” According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this technology is already required on passenger cars. In cases of loss of control over the car, the systems are automatically able to apply the brake on individual wheels. It has been estimated that the electronic stability control reduces accidents where the driver loses control of the car by at least 40%. That number could be the same for big rigs, busses, and other large trucks. A ruling by the NHTSA could become final within two to four years.

It happened in another county of Texas from where we practice law. 277 miles away to be exact. In the small town of Snyder, TX, the life of a 2 month old baby was snuffed out in a moment. Three other children were seriously injured, too, despite wearing seatbelts. Another Ford SUV experienced a tire blowout. The rear tire of the 2000 Ford Explorer lost its air on Hwy 84, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and overcorrect. The vehicle then rolled over several times. Many such tire blowouts or instances of tire failure take place on the rear, driver’s side tire, which makes it extremely difficult for the driver to control the affected vehicle. This usually provokes an overcorrection. Manufacturers of these SUV’s are often at fault as they may have outfitted a vehicle with a tire that doesn’t meet the vehicle weight needs. As the...

The verdict came in last Friday for a Corpus Christi woman who was severely injured in 2010 by a truck driver using her cell phone. Coca-Cola Company will have to pay $24 million to the person they mamed. Their employee was using her cell phone while driving, against company policy, and caused 37 year old Vanice Wilson to have to undergo lumbar surgery and endure excruciating neck and back pain. Wilson was awarded $10 million in punitive damages and $14 million in actual damages. Coca-Cola’s policy states that all drivers must use a hands free device while they are driving. The driver stated that if she had known that talking on the phone while driving was dangerous she never would have been doing so. If you or a loved one has been injured or killed by a truck driver, call us today. Our experienced attorneys at Cappolino, Dodd, Krebs LLP...

A least nine people were injured Tuesday when a Metro bus rear-ended a vehicle in northwest Houston, causing a chain-reaction crash involving 11 vehicles, according to the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Seven passengers on the bus and two occupants of the vehicles suffered minor injuries, Metro spokeswoman Carolina Mendoza said. All were transported to area hospitals, and none of the injuries were life-threatening, she said. However, this is not always the case with commercial bus accidents. Many times the life injuries are life threatening and even result in death. Many reasons exist for the numerous bus wrecks today. One of the most important areas seeking to be improved by the current governmental administration is driver fatigue. According to the NTSB, as much as one-third of all commercial motor vehicle crashes are due to fatigue. There are already limits on the number of hours that truckers and bus drivers can drive, but the...

On Monday afternoon, an 11 year old was killed and her mother was injured when their 1998 Ford Explorer overturned. According to the DPS, the rear tire blew out which caused the mother to lose control of the SUV. The vehicle then flipped over and landed on its top in a nearby field. Ford SUV’s have often carried a particularly high risk of rear tire blowouts. Often a rear tire blowout is due to a defective tire or tread separation, which can cause the driver of the vehicle to lose control. All automakers must be held responsible for defective products that are often sold with the knowledge that injuries and death are real possibilities that can result from the defects. If you or someone you love has been seriously hurt or killed in a car accident caused by a defective product, call our auto product liability attorneys in Cameron, Temple,...

Nissan will be recalling Titan pickups and Armada SUV’s due to a mistake on the tire information label. To date, no injuries have been reported. However, the omission on the labeling of proper rim size may lead to an incorrect tire/wheel combination which could increase the likelihood of crashes. This recall comes on the heels of another Nissan recall which involved incorrect information on tire-pressure decals. Improper inflation of tires may cause rollover accidents with roof crushes more often. These types of accidents kill, mame, and destroy lives. If you or someone you know has had a car accident due to manufacturer defects and improper manufacturer labeling, call our car accident attorneys for a legal consultation. We can help you seek just compensation for your injuries and losses. Cappolino, Dodd, Krebs LLP is a premier personal injury law firm with years of experience in serving the community.

Late last week, a 15 year old motorcyclist was killed when an 18 wheeler collided into him on the highway in North TX. When the teen attempted to change lanes, the 18 wheeler veered and the two vehicles crashed. The impact of the collision knocked the motorcyclist’s helmet off, causing serious head injuries that resulted in death on the scene. Although motorcyclists on the road pose certain risks to everyone, it is especially imperative that truck drivers protect vehicles and motorcyclists nearby. Motorcyclists are especially unprotected and vulnerable to being crashed into. Because trucking companies and their insurance representatives are quick to begin investigating 18 wheeler accidents, it is extremely important for those injured by them to do the same. Contact our qualified and experienced car wreck attorneys at Cappolino, Dodd, Krebs LLP for a confidential consultation. We can help uncover the details of a fatal accident and help you...

A tire blowout that caused a rollover accident in Eddy County, New Mexico last week, claimed the life of a Carlsbad resident, officials said Friday. After a tire blowout caused Mata to lose control of the pickup truck he was driving, police said the driver attempted to regain control, overcorrecting the vehicle. The truck then rolled over over multiple times. Tire blowouts, especially those that occur on the rear tires of a vehicle, can often result in rollover accidents. Some of the causes of tire blowouts include, aged rubber or materials, sometimes sold as new tires, defective design, tread separation or poor manufacturing execution. The instance of a tire blowout can sometimes cause the driver of a vehicle to lose control and overcorrect. In SUV’s and pickup trucks with higher centers of gravity, the result of a tire blowout can be deadly, causing the vehicle to overturn and cause serious...
