Safety Upgrade Given To Site Of Fatal School Bus Accident

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Following a school but accident that occurred in January, the intersection where the wreck happened has been given a safety upgrade.  Larger stop signs were installed at the intersection and stop lines were repainted.   Considerations are underway to lower the speed limit along that area (intersection of old Highway 95 and FM 93 near Belton).   According to Tex DOT spokesperson Ken Roberts, “the intersection currently meets or exceeds highway safety standards with more than adequate sight distance.”

32 people, mostly children, were rushed to Scott & White hospital in Temple in January after a Lowe’s delivery driver truck slammed into a Little-River Academy school bus.  The school bus driver passed away approximately one month after the accident from his injuries.

State and county officials believe their team work will prevent future tragedies from happening.

Honda To Recall 46,000 Vans

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

46,000 Odyssey minivans in the U.S. will be recalled by Honda because the rear doors can fall on people unexpectedly, and have on at least two occasions.

The vehicles affected are the minivans from the 2008 and 2009 model years that have power lift gates.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, gas can leak out of the struts that support the lift gates. Additionally, the doors could close unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injuries.
