Reporting Defective Vehicles

Occasionally on the nightly news is a story about a specific vehicle recall. Whether it be for a certain brand of tire or a specific vehicle part, these recalls are important for the safety of the driver, the passengers, and other people on the road. While there is extensive information on the internet about every vehicle with a past recall, new defective parts may be brought to the attention of the manufacturers to inspire new recalls.

To report a defective product, visit www.recalls.gov and click the link that says “Report a car, truck, and/or vehicle equipment that you feel has a safety defect” near the bottom of the page. This will lead you to an online form that includes frequently asked questions about reporting defective products. Specific information will be required for each item reported. The information you report is put into a complaint database and is compared with other related complaints to determine if a recall should be made. According to www.recalls.gov, a specific amount of complaints are not required and all available information is gathered about the problem.

Remember to search the recall databases for past information about your vehicle or other products, and don’t delay in filing a complaint about defective products.
