Evenflo Discovery Infant Safety Seats Recalled
Evenflo is voluntarily recalling over 1,00,000 Discovery child safety seats. The product consists of a carrier that locks into a base, which is strapped into the back seat of a vehicle with a seat belt. Studies show that the carrier may separate from the base in a side-impact collision.
The Evenflo recall effects all Evenflo Discovery seats manufactured from April 2005 to January 29, 2008. The model numbers of the seats recalled are:
- 390
- 391
- 534
- 552
Those who own Evenflo Discovery seats that are affected by the recall, can call the company to obtain a free fastening system that the company claims will fix the problem.
The Evenflo Discovery safety seat recall is the first to involve tests of side-impact collisions. Standards for side-impact collisions have not been established by the Federal government. Currently, only standards for front-end collisions are required to be met.
A Florida family has filed a lawsuit against Evenflo stating that the defect applies to child safety seats manufactured as far back as 2000. The daughter of the Florida family was injured during a side-impact collision while restrained in an Evenflo Discovery child safety seat.
